I receive an installation error message "Error: 1" or "Error 2878" when installing my Windows ESET security product (5.x)
Please follow the instructions below if you do not have an internet connection when installing ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 5 OR receive an installation error message such as one of the following:
Error: 1 (error 1) OR
Error 2878 OR
Installation Error. Please try again, or download and install offline installer.

Download the installation package for your ESET security product by clicking the appropriate download button below. If are unsure if your system is 32 or 64-bit, click here to determine which installation package to download.
ESET Smart Security 5::

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5:

Click Save when prompted and save the file to your Desktop.
- Once the download has completed, you may be prompted to click Run and begin the installation process. If the installer does not run automatically, navigate to your Desktop or wherever you saved the download file and double-click it to open.
- If previous antivirus software is detected on your system, close the installer and continue to step 4.
If you are able to successfully install the product, skip to step 6.
- In the following ESET Knowledgebase article, locate the link associated with the antivirus software currently or previously installed on your system:
Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software
- After running the removal tool for your previous antivirus software and successfully removing it, run the ESET installation package that you downloaded in step 1 by navigating to your Desktop or wherever you saved the downloaded file and double-click it to open.

Troubleshooting
- If you do not know which previous antivirus software was installed on your computer, use the ESET manual uninstaller tool to automatically detect and remove it. Click here for instructions for the ESET manual uninstaller tool.
- If you receive the same error message, please contact your previous antivirus vendor for assistance in removing their software from your computer.
- If you continue to experience issues after completing all of the steps above, follow the instructions in this ESET Knowledgebase article to create and submit a log file to ESET:
